Bolnisi - Germans in town

Description:

An hour from Tbilisi is a unique region of Kvemo Kartli. It mixes everything that imagination can do. Peoples, cultures, languages. Our way is to the city of Bolnisi. It is one of the most unusual cities in Georgia. It was founded relatively late - in 1818 under the name Katerinenfeld and Swabian Germans lived here. Therefore, we are waiting for a walk through the neat streets, with half-timber houses under tiled roofs and German wine cellars, by the way, I will tell you how they differ from Georgian marani.

In addition to walking, we will visit one of the most interesting Georgian museums - Bolnisi Museum of History and Archaeology. A large part of the museum is dedicated to archaeology, so I'm going to tell you briefly about archaeology as a science. It is the only museum of culture of Shulaveri-Shoma, people who first came to uninhabited Transcaucasia after the Mesocca cold snap and brought with them the ability to grow food, and one of the few museums on the planet that have a direct relationship to the Neolithic revolution. Be prepared for a journey into the millennia.

We will pass through eras and cultures, from the sixth millennium BC (!) to the present day.

After such a dizzying excursion, you need to rest and eat a little. To do this, we will stop at one of the private wineries, where we will be waiting for lunch and a small tasting. You will be surprised by the elegant style of Cartley wines, perhaps this region will become your favorite on the Georgian wine map.

Before leaving Bolnisi, we will reach the temple, which has collected a phenomenal number of statuses “oldest”. Bolnisi Sioni is the oldest of the existing churches of Georgia, the oldest inscription in the Old Georgian, and the oldest image of the Georgian cross (it is actually named after the temple by the Bolnisi cross). The place is curious, lively and atmospheric.
