The capital is always a special city - the center of culture and history of the state, the center of events, museums, the center of modern life of the country, and in Georgia it is also a treasure trove of architecture of different eras.
Tbilisi is a city with a rich history – something like two-faced Janus, who looks at the West with one face and the East with the other.

Mtskheta – the ancient capital of Georgia (located just 20 minutes drive from Tbilisi) city, which dates back more than 2000 years, today is one of those historical sights in Georgia, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many historical and religious monuments here. The security of the city for centuries was guarded by majestic mountains, and its tranquility - the Aragvi and Kura rivers.
Many Christians call Mtskheta the “second Jerusalem” and it is not accidental – it is here that one of the main Christian shrines – the Heaton of the Lord is kept. This and many others explain the status of modern Mtskheta – one of the most holy Christian cities.
Here we will visit:
- Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (before the appearance of the Trinity Church in Tbilisi, it was the main cathedral of Georgia, it contains the Christ robe)
- Jvari (Saint Cross Temple) - which is located on the opposite bank of the river on the top of the mountain. It is considered one of the oldest Georgian monasteries and was built in the VI century.
The temple stands on a high mountain, from where a beautiful panorama of the confluence of two rivers - Aragva and Kura and immortalized in the poems of Mtsyri - Lermontov M.Y. opens.
“Wherever there is noise,
Embracing like two sisters,
The jets of Aragva and Kura,
There was a monastery.”
According to the perfection of architectural forms, it is one of the masterpieces of architecture and the first World Heritage monument in Georgia.
