Excursion to Tbilisi: Old Tbilisi is our contemporary
Description:
The old city is not a theatrical scenery, it is an active participant in the modern life of people. When you want a holiday for the soul, hurry here.
What was in the old days and what is now Tbilisi and Tbilisi, what they live, what traditions have been preserved to this day, the original features of our city, our citizens, the interweaving of antiquity and modernity at every step - we will talk about all this on our walk.
The temple of Tsminda Sameb is my age. The soul brightens in its spacious halls, in the sprawling park around. People come here with whole families: visit the temple, walk through its surroundings, chat at a table in the cafe "Lagidze Waters". And the children are happy with a living corner with peacocks and swans.
Ancient Awlabar district. Next to the old residential houses are cozy new hotels.
Festive mood reigns in the ancient temple of Metekhi. Today there is a baptism of the newly born Tbilisi!
From the Metekhi Bridge every year on the day of commemoration of the Hundred Thousand Martyrs, citizens lower flowers into the Mtkvari River.
And Rike Park is a kid, only 5 years old. But deservedly popular with residents and guests of the city.
The beautiful Peace Bridge connects the park to the opposite bank. Not every city can boast of this!
From the park, a modern rope will take you to the Sololak Ridge. The alley along the ridge is always crowded, and children run around the ruins of the gray fortress of Narikala, posing as medieval warriors.
Along the paths of the Botanical Garden between the flora from all over the world, you can walk all day enjoying the beauty and smells of plants.
The waterfall in the depths of the Fig Gorge brings coolness on a sultry day. Even wedding couples strive to grieve themselves against the backdrop of local beauty!
The child plays hide-and-seek between the domes of the ancient sulfur baths that form the Abanotubani quarter. And below, under these domes, citizens and guests experience the healing effect of sulfur water and massage.
The very center of the Old Town is Meydan Square. Not far from here peacefully coexist churches of different faiths: Georgian Orthodox, Armenian-Gregorian, Muslim mosque, Jewish synagogues, Catholic church, ruins of an ancient pagan temple... And also peacefully and friendly from time immemorial people of different nationalities live. The most important thing is to wear the title of Tbilisi!
From the square, the streets fan, one of the most famous streets. Leselidze (new name of Abkhazi). Fully given to citizens and guests of the city Shardin Street, Watt and Iron Rows, Zion, Erekle ll, Shaveteli. In this area, you can enjoy modern art at exhibitions and sales in galleries and salons, delights of Georgian, Eastern, European cuisines in a variety of restaurants and cafes, it is pleasant and fun to spend time in bars and clubs.
On Shavteli Street, there are two interesting objects nearby - the oldest temple of Tbilisi Anchiskhati and the modern Gabriadze Puppet Theatre, which is very symbolic for Tbilisi, here antiquity and modernity are intertwined at every step. In Anchiskhati, you can listen to the Georgian three-part church chant, and at the fairy-tale tower of the Gabriadze Theatre you can watch the mini-performance “Circle of Life”. It will certainly brighten from both!
Baratashvili Avenue. And here antiquity and modernity are close: on one side the avenue stretches along the fortress wall of the city, and the other side is built up with Stalinist houses. According to the plan of the architect Kavlashvili, here is not just a decoration in the form of an ancient wall, this place is multifunctional: to the delight of the newlyweds, the Wedding House is a small mansion with a balcony of grapes, above the wall, as its continuation, residential buildings with long balconies, a cafe with an entrance right in the wall. Everything is extraordinary and interesting and everything is for people!
Turn, and we are on Pushkin Street, where he lived when he visited Tbilisi. At the foot of the gate of the ancient city. And the lovely Pushkin square here has long been, the bust of the poet was one of the first in the Russian Empire, the bowls of the fountain please with decorations and coolness.
And the ring of the Old City is crowned by the main city square of Liberty, where various folk celebrations are held.
Tbilisi residents try to take care of the city, its antiquity and in response the city pleases us.
