Once upon a time there was an artist: In the footsteps of Nico Pirosmani

Description:

Niko Pirosmani (Nikolai Aslanovich Pirosmanashvili) was born in the lost village of Mirzaani in the east of Kakheti. Information about his childhood is based on stories, rumors and indirect research. There are no documents in which the facts were recorded.

However, there are still Kakhetian landscapes, Tbilisi courtyards, Georgian feasts, sad cows and other pieces of “secret” Georgia, which can sometimes be seen in the modern life of cities and villages. On this trip, we follow the footsteps of Nico Pirosmani.

Day 1. Meeting in Tbilisi. Walk from the right bank of the river Kura, where Pirosmani lived as a child on the left, where the last address of the artist is preserved. We will talk about Tbilisi at the end of the XIX century, consider old photos and go to the front and cozy courtyards.

In the evening, we will have dinner in one of the Tbilisi dukhans. I will talk about the culture of Georgian feast and its place in the works of Pirosmani and other Georgian artists.

Day 2. National Art Gallery of Georgia (Blue Gallery) Of course, we will take a closer look at the work of Nico Pirosmani. Let’s talk about the features of primitivism, the style in which the artist wrote. Is it true that my child will draw better? Or it's more complicated. Consider the work of other Georgian artists.

After lunch, our way is to Kakheti. In the charming city of Signaghi, which is associated with the legend of a million scarlet roses, gifted by a loving artist to a beautiful singer. We'll check into a hotel, have dinner, and then take a little walk through the especially beautiful and mysterious night streets of Signaha, and I'll tell you how in this story the reality is intertwined with the legend.

Day 3. We visit the museum in Signahi, which also has paintings by Pirosmani and go to the artist’s homeland, to the small village of Mirzaani, in which on May 5, 1862, an unusual boy was born, who told the whole world about his wonderful country with a brush and colors.

In Mirzaani we will see the Pirosmani Museum and walk a little between the picturesque pastures and houses. After dinner in Signaghi, we return to Tbilisi and say good-bye. Our journey is over.
