Algeti National Park

The most beautiful landscape, famous Algeti - a national park, is located in the south-east of Georgia, in the region of Lower Kartli, in the Tetritskaro area 60 kilometers from the city of Tbilisi. It occupies the eastern part of the Trialeti Ridge in the Algeti River gorge and is located between 1100 and 1950 m above sea level. The highest point is Mount Kldekari (2000 meters). The park was founded by the Soviet government in 1965 as a state reserve to protect the eastern limits, namely Caucasian spruce and fir. In 2007, it was nationalized.

Algeti National Park, has a mountainous terrain, rugged with a large number of ravines and small rivers. The territory consists of igneous rocks and sedimentary layers. Characterized by a humid climate, in winter it is moderately cold, and in summer it is warm. The total area of the park is 6822 hectares, most of which is covered with forests. Such species of trees grow as: spruce, oaks, pine trees, ash, hornbow, birch, beech. The rest of the area is occupied by shrubs, medicinal, poisonous, and ornamental plants of more than 1664 species. Among the inhabitants of the fauna, here you can see large predators: brown bears, wolves, least of all lynx, deer, red squirrels, martens, foxes and hares. Among the snakes: a copper, a viper. In the gorge of Algeti, you can find 80 species of birds, such as: quail, common grouse, meadow lunula, owl, hoop, black woodpecker, swallow, tit, dash.

In the nearby Algeti National Park, many archaeological sites have been discovered, from the Early Eneolithic and Late Bronze Age. Cyclopean fortresses of the IX century, active churches and ruins of churches were preserved, such as: the Church of St. Mary, St. George, the Manglis temple, the prayer house of Kviratskhoveli.
