St. Mogni Church. Georgia
Tbilisi, Georgia, Mogninska Street 31
Description:
The Mognina Church is called the calling card of Georgia. It was built in 1532. The prototype for it was the Echmiadzin temple. We learn about the history of the name from the notes of the French traveler Jean Chardin. Mognin was the name of a small village in Yerevan. The skull of St. George was kept there for a long time. Then this shrine was moved to a new temple, which became so called. In Soviet times, a museum of folk art functioned here. After its closure in 1980, the building was abandoned, gradually destroyed. Today, active work is underway to preserve the temple and carry out restoration work. You can get there by city transport - metro, bus, taxi.
