David Agmashenebeli Avenue

Eastern Tbilisi, Georgia

Description:

On the site of this famous Tbilisi avenue In the XVIII century once stood a huge Kuki forest. In the 19th century, German colonists settled here, who made a great contribution to the formation of the "New Kukia" and laid the foundation for the construction of the district. But the construction of the avenue dates back to the time when Tbilisi was ruled by the viceroy of the tsar in the Caucasus Mikhail Vorontsov. It was from this period that the construction of the street began, which was later named after the son of Nicholas I Romanov - Mikhail Street, and later Mikhailovsky Avenue. And only in 1988 the avenue was named after the Georgian king David Agmashenebeli (Builder).

After the restoration of 2010, the avenue looks great. Part of the avenue adjacent to Marjanishvili Square is now called “Georgian Paris”.

How to get there: Agmashenebeli Avenue is located on the left bank of the Kura River, in the Chugureti area. From the center of Tbilisi - from the Friendship Bridge and Rike Park you can walk by foot.
