About Lechhumi
Lechkhumi is a small but surprisingly beautiful mountainous corner of Georgia, located between the regions of Svaneti and Racha, on the southern slope of the Caucasus. The nature here is amazing. If it were not for the glaciers of Svaneti, Lechkhumi could safely be called the most picturesque place in the country.
A special place is occupied by Mount Khvamli (2200 m). Legends are associated with it: they say that Amiran is chained here - a hero who stole fire from the gods. It is believed that in difficult times this mountain will feed the country. On its slopes and in caves even the anchor of the ship was found at an altitude of about 2000 m.
At the foot of the mountain, in the village of Okureshi, the rarest and most expensive Georgian wine is grown - Usahelauri ("Unnamed"). This variety is so sensitive to soil and climate that it does not take root anywhere except Okureshi. The yield is only a few tons per year, the wine is semi-sweet, red.
In the gorge of the Lajanuri River is the medical resort of Lashichala with 11 mineral springs, each of which helps with a certain disease.
Higher in the mountains, at an altitude of about 1400 m, there is a unique spring Dzuguri, whose water, according to local stories, helps with diabetes.
Lechkhumi is famous for the clean rivers - Lajanuri, Rioni and Tskhenistkali, as well as the picturesque gorges and cliffs of Orpiri (Gate of the Rocks), where you can ride bicycles and enjoy cool springs.
The village of Lailashi is known for its history - until the XVIII century it was the commercial center of Imereti. Here, archaeologists have found the oldest Jewish manuscript - "Lailashis Othtawi" (Lailashi Four-Headed), valuable for Jewish and Georgian cultures.
It is also worth visiting the village of Sairme with majestic stone pillars and the village of Gvirishi with a beautiful gorge.
With windless valleys, Lechkhumi is ideal for hang gliding and light aircraft.
This small, little-known region impresses with its nature, history and hospitality. The hand of the Creator is really felt here, and Lechkhumi can rightly be called one of the must-see places in Georgia.
