Day excursion from Delhi to Agra
Description:
Agra, located on the banks of the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh, is a popular tourist destination as it is home to one of the 7 wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal.
Agra has a rich history, reflected in the numerous monuments scattered throughout and around the city. The earliest mention of Agra dates back to the mythological era, when in the Mahabharata epic Agra is referred to as "Agravana", which means "paradise" in Sanskrit. Ptolemy, the famous geographer of the second century AD, was the first to call Agra its modern name. Modern Agra was founded by Sikandar Lodi, ruler of the Lodi dynasty in the 16th century. When Shah Jahan ascended the throne of the Mughals, Agra reached the zenith of architectural beauty.
Agra is one of the most populous cities in Uttar Pradesh and the 24th most populous city in India. It is not surprising that due to its long and rich history, Agra is part of the popular tourist route “Golden Triangle” along with Delhi and Jaipur. It is also part of the Arch of Uttar Pradesh Heritage, including Varanasi and Lucknow. Lovers of history and architecture will certainly enjoy here, enjoying the monuments of art and culture of the Mughals.
In addition to the monuments, there is something interesting for gourmets in Agra. It is as famous for its petha (a pumpkin sweetness seasoned with rose water and saffron) as the Taj Mahal. Agra is also known for its marble products, which are best bought at Sadar or Kinaari markets.
Agra is mostly visited during a day trip from New Delhi or is well worth it. After leaving Delhi early in the morning, we will visit the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort, the tomb of Akbar the Great, the so-called Baby Taj and in the evening return to Delhi.
Be prepared to be amazed, amazed, inspired and excited.
