The Golden Temple of Harmandir Sahib
Description:
Harmandir Sahib (Darbarasahib or Golden Temple) is one of the oldest and most revered temples in India. For its decoration with gold plates, the temple was called Golden. This temple is considered one of the oldest and most sacred in India - the time of its construction - 1589.
Most of the gold plates, which today decorated the temple and thanks to which the building gives the impression of a single piece of gold, the temple was decorated in the early and first half of the XIX century, when under the patronage of the Maharaja of the Sikh Empire in Punjab, Emperor Ranjit Singh, decorative works were made to decorate the sacred complex with gold and marble.
The golden temple stands in the center of an artificial lake, and the road to it lies along a narrow marble bridge - it was previously believed that only the righteous can pass into the sanctuary and the path through the lake was equated with the purification of the soul. The road on the bridge symbolizes the path from the sinner to the righteous. The temple is symbolically open to entrance from four sides, from all sides of the world. Thus, the gurvarda is available for all nationalities and religions.
