Taj-ul Mosque

Koh E Fiza, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India

Description:

Taj-ul Mosque translates as “The Crown of Mosques”. Indeed, the name speaks for itself – it is the largest and brightest mosque in India and one of the largest in Asia. In the daytime it is used as a madrasah (Islamic school).

The mosque began to build in the XVII-XVIII centuries, the ruler of Bhopal - Sultan Jahan Begum. His daughter Shah Jahan Begum continued the construction, but during her lifetime the construction of the temple was never completed due to lack of funds. After a long pause, construction resumed in 1971 thanks to the efforts of Allam Mohammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azari Bhopal. The mosque was completed in 1985.

The pink facade of the mosque is crowned with two 18-storey octagonal minarets with marble domes. Inside the building there are three bulbous domes, an impressive corridor with columns and a marble floor in the style of Mughal architecture.

Opposite the mosque is the Dhai Seedi Ki Masjid, one of the smallest mosques in Asia.
