Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum

1, Safdarjurng Road, New Delhi, Delhi 110011

About the company:

The former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum is located in her former residence. The exhibition presents photos of Indira, reflecting her life path from childhood to becoming prime minister, her personal belongings, personal correspondence and even the sari that was worn on her on the day of the murder. Around the museum building there is a lush garden.

The world famous Indira Gandhi ruled the country for almost 20 years, and in 1984, while walking in the garden, she was not killed by a Sikh personal bodyguard. The path she walked that day is now part of the memorial. Transparent glass in the garden marked the place where Indira Gandhi fell.

In 1991, her son, Rajiv Gandhi, also a prominent politician, was assassinated. Several rooms of the museum are dedicated to his biography. The museum has rooms where visitors are not allowed to enter - this is the library and living room, which are preserved in the form she left them, but through the windows in the garden, those who wish can look at the interior.
