St. Anthony's Church
Description:
The Church of St. Anthony, located in the city of Siolim, 30 kilometers north of the city of Panaji in the Indian state of North Goa, has a long history. The first building on this site was founded in the XVI century by Franciscan missionaries and consecrated in honor of St. Anthony of Padua. Soon this church collapsed, and a new one appeared only in 1630.
By the beginning of the XX century, the church of St. Anthony was very dilapidated, and parishioners decided not to restore the old church, but to build a new one in its place, which was done. The new church was consecrated in 1907. Now we can see the church in the neo-Gothic style of white brick, the architectural features of which are two towers with spires from the facade and a statue of the saint himself, holding a snake, which according to legend prevented the construction of the church.
