Description:

280 km from the capital of Goa, in Karnataka, on the beach, there is a fishing village - Murdeshwar. This place, like Gokarna, is very revered by pilgrims from all over the world. More than a thousand people come here every day to see the temple complex. The buildings that are included in the complex amaze with their diversity, beauty and size. It is built on the hill of Kanduk, and on three sides it is surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Sea.

According to myths, Ravana threw on this hill the material covering the lingam, which was presented by Shiva. Murdeshwar is the name of the main temple in the complex. It is made of granite and dedicated to the god Shiva. Before entering the temple, you will be greeted by 2 elephants cast from life-size concrete. Opposite the temple is the horupa Raja (the horupa is a tower at a very large and significant Hindu temple), its height is 184 m, and with its twenty floors it is considered the highest in the world.

The main structure in the temple complex is the statue of Shiva, whose height is 37 meters. This is the largest statue in the world dedicated to this deity. It is located on the top of the Kanduka hill, which makes it visible even far from the sea. The deity depicted on the statue sits in the lotus position and is turned back to the sea.
