GOA

Bird Nature Reserve

Description:

The bird reserve, named after the famous Indian ornithologist Salim Ali, is located on Chorao Island. It is one of the most famous reserves not only in Goa, but throughout India. Chorao Island is washed by the waters of two rivers, Mandovi and Mapusa. Its territory is a combination of swamp and mangrove forest and is a halo of habitat for about 400 species of local and migratory sea, swamp and forest birds, including storks, white herons, eagles, various species of ducks and kingfisher (a symbol of popular Indian beer).

The maximum concentration of birds on the island is observed immediately after the end of the monsoon rainy season - in October. It is at this time that migratory birds fly to the island for wintering from the cold edges, and the reserve turns into a fabulous multi-colored world, and in March the birds with offspring return back to their homeland.

Inspection is carried out directly from boats, as there are no roads on the island. There is a very dense vegetation, in which bird nests hide, and bats hang from the trees. The guide will tell you about every bird you are lucky enough to see. It should be noted that there are crocodiles here, and you can ask a guide to take you to their habitats.
