Wellington Island
Description:
Wellington Island is part of the city of Kochi, which is part of Kerala, India. Most of the island was created artificially by extracting soil from Lake Koti. On this island is the port of Kochi, as well as the naval base of the Indian Navy. There are also many other services related to the port located on the island. These are offices, warehouses, business centers, hotels and customs.
Kochi was created during the construction of the modern port in 1936, using soil extracted to deepen the bottom, it was added to its current size. It was named after Lord Wellington. Robert Bristow, the main character and engineer of the project, owned the first building on the island. The land is owned by the Cochin Port Trust and the Indian Navy.
Among other buildings of the island should be noted buildings that include passenger and railway lines of the platform. This huge space was soon purchased by Royal Air Force, which built a large airfield there. This was a good start for the military base to flourish. The Malabar Hotel housed about a quarter of the military staff and was soon added to the new administrative building.
