Church of the Madonna of Angels

between Dumas street and, Surcoof St, Puducherry, Pondicherry, India

Description:

Like most other churches in Pondicherry, the Church of the Madonna of Angels is imposing, with a flowering inner garden and with tourists coming here at any time of the year.

Although officially known as the Church of the Madonna of Angels, it is locally referred to in Tamil as the Capuchin Church because it was Capuchin monks who built the church. The building was built in 1855, but is not the first church to stand on the site.

The square towers frame the main building, all of which is painted in an unusual combination of pale peach and yellow. Such unusual colors of the appearance of the church attract tourists with its beauty.

But inside the church is unusually strict and observes all the canons of Catholicism. On the altar you can see the statue of the crucifixion of Jesus in full growth. It's made of dark wood.
