Ecklingji Temple
Eklingji Temple, Rajasthan, India
Description:
Eklingji Temple is one of the most famous temple complexes in Rajasthan dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Eklingji, one of the incarnations of Shiva, is considered a deity of Mevar rulers.
The main temple was built in the XV century. It was repeatedly restored from the ruins. It was recently renovated as the temple building was badly damaged by Muslim attacks.
The two-storey Ecklingji building looks stunning with a pyramidal roof with distinctly carved towers. Inside it is a huge columned hall, at the entrance to which hangs the image of Nandi, made of silver. The temple has two other images of Nandi carved from black stone and brass. Also in Eklingji is a four-faced Shiva made of black marble, decorated with jewelry.
The temple is considered a place of worship of Hindus in India. Most faithful pilgrims visit the temple on Monday, hoping for special blessings from Shiva.
