Lake Gadisar Sagar

Jaysamer, Rajasthan, India

Description:

Jaysamer is located in the heart of the Great Indian Desert. In the Middle Ages, the Great Silk Road ran through this city. Merchants following this route made a stop near the lake Gadisar Sagar, and it generously gave water to travelers and their beasts of burden. Thanks to these guests, the city developed and grew.

Lake Gadisar Sagar is beautiful during high water. During this period, the towers and artificial islands in the middle of the lake rise exactly as it was conceived by the creators. In the dry season, the turrets and islands stand on tall stilts.

But during the dry season, the lake decreases in size and can be walked around by taking an interesting walk. From the opposite side of the fort, you can admire excellent views of the city and the fort, and you can also get to two islands, on which there are several temples of Shiva and Ganesha among the gardens. And if you move a little away from the lake into the desert, you can find yourself in an ancient, long-abandoned cemetery. At the cemetery, ancient stones and slabs covered with lace carvings are of interest.
