Trivandrum

Ancient temple in the rock

Description:

The cave temple is one of two temples in the rock, which is located in Tiruvananthapuram and is the oldest. The cave is carved into a solid rock on the top of the hill so that it needs to climb stairs to a height of about 200 meters. During the reign of King Ayu (Ashokan), this temple was transferred to Buddhists, but since 1000 it was converted into a Hindu temple. This square cave temple was dedicated to the god Shiva. And the rock thus became little Kailash. Shivratri is the main annual festival celebrated in this temple. It attracts thousands of devotees from distant and near surroundings. The temple is protected by the Archaeological Department of Kerala.

Climbing the hill, we have wonderful views of the whole city. A small park and bamboo bridge is built specifically for guests and tourists to enjoy the beautiful panoramas. At the top of the cliff, meditation is especially good.

The trip to this place is well planned in the early morning and you can also visit the Lotus Temple, which is nearby.
