Aqaba

Seven Pillars Rock

Aqaba, Jordan

Description:

The unique and fascinating landscapes of Jordan’s Wadi Rum Desert are well known to adventurers. The majestic rocks of red sandstone and endless dunes amaze with their beauty. The desert covers an area of more than 75,000 hectares in southern Jordan.

One of the many attractions of Wadi Rum is the rock "Seven Pillars", located in the western part of the desert. Its height is about 70 meters. As a result of weathering over many millions of years, it took on a bizarre shape. In 1980, it was named “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” in honor of Lawrence’s wartime book of the same name. Since prehistoric times, traces of rock paintings of great historical value have been preserved on it.

Wadi Rum is ideal for hiking, mountaineering and trekking. In the tourist center, located near the cliff, a bar and cafe are open, here you can have a snack and gain strength for further travel. Those who wish can take a walk on camels and get acquainted with the indigenous inhabitants of the desert - Bedouins.
