Aqaba Archaeological Museum
About the company:
One of the attractions of the Jordanian city of Aqaba is the Archaeological Museum, located near the Historical Fort and Flagstock. The building in which it is located was formerly the palace of political figure Sharif Hussein bin Ali. The building was built in 1917 in the style of a medieval castle with massive walls, arched passages and a clock tower. The Archaeological Museum was founded in 1989 and was inaugurated on January 1, 1990.
The museum presents a rich collection of Bronze Age artifacts that were discovered during archaeological excavations in Aqaba. The oldest specimen dates back to 4000 BC. Also in the archaeological museum there is a collection of exhibits of the VII - XII centuries BC. The most popular of them is a tablet with inscriptions of verses of the Koran, which hung on the upper part of the eastern city gate in the ninth century. Of particular note is the huge collection of coins dating from 909 to 1171.
