The ancient city of Hatra
Description:
The ancient city of Hatra appeared long before our era and despite its thousand-year history is one of the most well-preserved historical monuments of antiquity. Perhaps this is due to the dug trenches that have repeatedly saved the city from the attack of enemies. Also, there were several protective towers that guarded the peace of the locals.
Due to its special location, the city has become a treasure trove for many cultures, as evidenced by the architecture reflecting ancient Roman and Hellenistic with beautiful Arab decor.
Moreover, Hatra was a major religious center, having its own palace and temple complex, for which it received the unspoken name "House of God".
The city ceased to exist in 241 AD when the Persian ruler Shapur conquered and later destroyed the city.
