Hanging Gardens of Semiramis

Al-Mahawil, Iraq

Description:

The Hanging Gardens of Semiramis today are a beautiful legend that personifies the ancient city of Babylon.

Most of us know that there are seven wonders of the world. But how many of us know that the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis are the second wonder of the world on this list? Unfortunately, not preserved to this day, except for the ruins from the once largest and richest city of the Ancient East.

It is noteworthy that the unique hanging gardens were a beautiful recognition of the feelings of King Nebuchadnezzar II to his wife Amitis, who, being in arid Babylon, yearned for the evergreen homeland of Media.

So there were gardens in the form of a pyramid, which from afar resembled a green hill, and this is in the desert Babylon! Therefore, it is natural that very quickly the news of the creation of such a miracle spread throughout the neighborhood and often these gardens became a temporary residence during the journey of the kings. By the way, Alexander the Great also rested in these gardens, and many historians recognized the fact that the gardens of Semiramis were the last place of his stay on earth. After his death, 172 luxuriously furnished rooms of the palace finally fell into decay - the garden finally ceased to care, and severe floods damaged the foundation, and the structure collapsed.
