Golden Mosque

Imam All Street, Irak

Description:

The Golden Mosque is an architectural, historical building and a house of prayer for the Muslim people. Originally, it was a tomb erected above the graves of Imam Musa and his grandson Imam Qazim al-Jawad.

The Golden Mosque is extremely richly decorated. Two domes, four small minarets next to them and four tall minarets at the corners of the ensemble burn with thick gilding. The entrances are through aivans to the entire height of the building, their walls are lined with tiles, and the upper part is richly finished with gold and mirror stalactites. The walls of the mosque are lined with colored tiles with verses from the Koran and memorial inscriptions. Calligraphic inscriptions made in Arabic script are laid out against the background of a thin plant ornament. In the first place, there was a mausoleum where Imam Musa and Imam Kazim al-Jawad (grandson of Musa) were buried.

Not Muslims can see all the splendor of the interior decoration of the mosque - they are strictly forbidden to enter the Golden Mosque. Therefore, you can admire the beauty of the magnificent building only from the outside.
