Castlemore Castle

Crookstown, Co. Cork, Ireland

Description:

Castlemore Castle is the most visited castle in Ireland. It was the main residence of the Costello family until the early nineteenth century. The castle is very rich and its interior decoration is simply impressive. It has a large circular staircase that leads to the upper floors. Wooden ceilings decorate the entire room. Also in the castle there is a living room, kitchen, pantry, dressing room and several bathrooms.

There is a tragic story about this castle. In 1532, a dispute between two brothers ended with the death of one of them. The older brother renounced the church and became a warrior, and the younger - a priest. The elder threw a sword at the youngest and killed him. Historians could not find out the reason for such a cruel act, since in the period 1821-1851 all censuses were destroyed in a fire.
