It is located at a distance of 6 kilometers from the city of Cork and 2 kilometers from the village of Ballygarvan. 2.5 million people use its services every year.
In 1957, the Irish government approved the construction of an airport near Cork. Then in 1959, a tender was held for its construction, the budget was 1 million pounds. Completion of construction and grand opening took place in 1961. The reconstruction of the airport was carried out in 1976-1978, during which new halls, a new office complex and an updated information board were built. In the 1980s, the apron was expanded and the terminal renovated.
