Reykjavik – the city of contrasts, the northernmost capital of the world
Description:
In Reykjavik, located at the 63rd parallel, the sun hardly sets in summer. It's a city of contrasts. :
Tiny, multi-colored iron houses in the center of “historic” Reykjavik are often inferior in size to the megajeeps parked next to them, the presidential palace is the size of a bus. Business meetings are appointed in numerous outdoor pools with natural thermal water, roads are built bypassing lava blocks inhabited by invisible elves. Our northern capital has its own claims to greatness: on the hill the 73-meter spire of Khalgrimskirchi is a Lutheran temple, a space view, “Perla (which means pearl)”, a new city hall building, a municipal reception house – the place of the historical meeting of Reagan and Gorbachev. And finally, after a 2-3-hour excursion, you can taste the “nightlife”, go to “club” in a compact “downtown” or go to the city pond to feed the swans.
