Fjord Borgarfjardardardard
Description:
Borgarfjardar is a fjord in western Iceland.
This area is famous for the splendor of its landscapes. The waters of the Borgarfjardar fjord may seem calm, but it is quite a dangerous place because of the shallows and underwater currents. On the bank of the Borgarfjardar fjord is the town of Borgarnes. It is the administrative center of Westurland. As of January 1, 2007, the population of the city was 1930 people. In Borgarnes, according to Icelandic legends, in the IX or X century, the skald and hero Egil Skalagrimsson was born, whose life is described in the medieval saga “Saga of Aegil”. In memory of him in the city there is a monument created by the sculptor Asmundur Sveinsson. The name Borgarfjardar probably comes from the Borg farm, which, according to the sagas, was founded by Egil's father.
