Reykjavík

Reykjavik Airport

Description:

Reykjavik Airport serves only domestic flights, which is caused by a rather short runway, unable to receive international-class aircraft. However, it is worth noting that some foreign routes are supported. Flights are made to the Faroe Islands and Greenland, as well as charter flights and cargo transportation across the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, the airport acts as a backup option for landing airliners, in the event that the main airport Keflavik weather conditions can not accept flights. But the Boeing 757-200 class can land here.

This airport is considered the base for two airlines. This is Air Iceland and Eagle Air. The airfield has three lanes for takeoff and landing, but only two are permanently in operation. The smallest is used only in winter. Takeoffs are made from lane 24 and landing on lane 24/06. For reasons of safety and a lot of noise for the terrain, take-off from lane 06 at the airfield is prohibited. Reykjavik Airport is owned by the state-owned Isavia.
