Landmannalegar Valley
Landmannalaugar, Landmannalaugavegur, Iceland
Description:
Landmannalegar Valley is a nature reserve in Iceland. The valley has an incredible landscape formed from various forms of water and lava.
The name Landmannaleigar translates as "the bath of the men of this land." Since ancient times, people loved to come here to swim in the waters of numerous local springs. The valley mountains are made up of pure rhyolite, a slowly crystallized volcanic rock. This beautiful stone formed smooth pyramid-shaped mountains. The color of rocks and sand varies depending on lighting and weather: they can be yellow or red-brown with blue, green, purple streaks, which are formed by ash mixed with rock during volcanic eruptions. In the valley, steam rises from the surface of the earth, which gives this place an even more fabulous look.
