Cape-Reserve of Dirhols

871, Iceland

Description:

The southernmost point of mainland Iceland is Cape Dirholaei, translated from Icelandic - "hole in the door." Natural arches and turrets were formed due to the painstaking work of the sea and wind.

For centuries, water has destroyed cliffs from volcanic lava 100 meters high, formed as a result of an underwater eruption to create incredible beauty shapes. Rocks rise in the middle of a black sandy wasteland, and individual groups run far into the ocean. It is said that any ship can pass under this arch.

The palette of colors is truly impressive (because this is Iceland - no bright spots): black sand, wet stones, all shades of gray, constantly changing sky and ocean - the combination of colors is fascinating.

Cape Dirholay is a nature reserve. Here nest dead ends - the pride of the country. By the way, this place is not always open to visit: in spring, during the nesting season of birds (from mid-May to 23 June), the cape is closed.
