"Hot Spring Garden" hveragerdi
Located 45 km east of Reykjavik near the district highway.
Description:
Hveragerdi - the name of the nearest town to Reykjavik near the ring road means "the garden of hot springs". Hveragerdi is located in the picturesque surroundings of Hengidl volcano, teeming with small hot springs. Particular attention should be paid to the mini-Geyser Grita, throwing small columns of water several times a minute.
In the Middle Ages, the area around the majestic Hengidl volcano bore a bad reputation, since gangs of sea robbers settled here in numerous mountain caves, grottoes and dungeons for many years, which now attracts many tourists.
Hveragerdi is known for its greenhouses, which are heated by warm volcanic waters. It is noteworthy that there are also hot mineral springs. The most famous attraction of the town is the greenhouse Eden, where exotic fruits and plants are grown all year round. Also here is one of the most interesting souvenir shops in Iceland. In view of all this, Hveragerdi is included in the popular route "Golden Ring" of the Republic of Iceland, which is organized by excursion groups of tourists.
