Golden Falls Gutlfoss
Description:
Gullfoss is a waterfall in Iceland. It is located in the south of Iceland, on the Hvitau River.
This is one of the most beautiful places in Iceland. The waterfall consists of two steps - 21 meters and 11 meters high. The steps are turned to each other at an angle of 90 degrees. In 1920 and 1977 on the site of the waterfall wanted to build a hydroelectric power plant, which would lead to the destruction of the waterfall. Then the territory of Gullfoss was leased by Toumas Toumasson and Hadldour Hadldourosson. Attempts by investors to build a hydroelectric power plant were unsuccessful, and the waterfall was soon sold to the Icelandic government. Since then, there have been plans to build a hydroelectric power plant, but they have not yet been implemented. At the top of the falls is a monument to Sigriudur Toumasdouttir, the daughter of landowner Toumas Toumasson, who, according to legend, threatened to throw herself from the falls down to protect it from destruction.
