Justin' Holy Day
Description:
The holiday itself dates back to a Christian legend: the murder of all children under two years of age born in Belém, Judea, on the orders of King Erodot. He tried to prevent the birth of Christ. Christian historians write that between 3,000 and 15,000 children were killed, but according to the Roman governor of the time, Kirino (as the Gospel says) there were no more than 800 inhabitants in the town of Belém. So no more than 20 babies were born each year and half of them died before the age of two (which was normal at the time). So it's likely that when Erodotus sent his men to kill the children, no more than ten should have been killed.
How the day of remembrance was transformed into "Day of the Fool" remains a mystery, but the Spanish word inocente (innocent, innocent, innocent child) on this day refers to everyone who is caught in holiday jokes (las inocentadas).
