Temple of the Sacred Heart
Temple del Sagrat Cor, Tibidabo, Barcelona, 08035 Barcelona, Spain 13 m
Description:
Very near Barcelona, on Mount Tibidabo, stands the famous Temple of the Sacred Heart. Its outlines can be seen from almost anywhere in Barcelona. The very name of Mount Tibidado has references to the Bible. Tibidabo is translated as “I will give you” – these are the words that Satan spoke to Jesus, trying to lead him into temptation.
The construction of the Sacred Heart began in 1902 and was led by the architect Enrico Sagnier y Villavecchia. To see the completion of the construction of Enrico was not destined - the work on the temple continued his son, and completed it in 1961. The temple is made in Gothic and at the same time Romanesque style. The temple is crowned by the figure of Jesus Christ with outstretched hands.
You can get to the temple by tram or funicular.
