Royal Square
Pla a Reial, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
Description:
Royal Square is a complex of medieval buildings that were built during the time of the kings of Aragon. On the square are buildings such as the Grand Palace (Palau Reial Major), famous for its large Gothic throne room Tinelle (Salo del Tinell), the Church of St. Agatha (Capilla de Santa Agueda), the Count's Palace or the Palace of the Viceroy (Palau del Lloctinent), built later of all the buildings on the square and the Palace of Clariana Padellas (Casa Clariana Padellas).
The square was conceived as a place for fairs and tournaments, so the kings made sure that the noise from the square did not penetrate the castle - the square has almost no exits, the only one is at the stage for theatrical performances.
