Park de la Ciutadella
Passeig de Llus Companies, 2, 08018 Barcelona, Spain,
Description:
The magnificent Park de la Ciutadella, which harmoniously interweaves picturesque nature and architectural structures, is located within the Old Town of the Catalan capital. The area of the park is 30 hectares. One of the entrances to the park is decorated with the famous Arc de Triomphe, which is a symbol of freedom.
The designer of the gardens was the French architect Jean Forestier, and the magnificent cascade of fountains in the heart of the garden was created by the Spaniard Josep Fonseré, who was helped by the novice Antonio Gaudí. The fountain cascade is crowned by the Arc de Triomphe with its allegorical bas-reliefs. Behind the castle of the Three Dragons, a building was erected for the future Geological Museum, as well as a greenhouse in which exotic plants are grown. The walls of the castle, originally intended as a restaurant for visitors to the World Exhibition, since 1920 housed the Zoological Museum with an interesting exposition.
