Pedralbes Monastery
Baixada del Monestir, 2-8, 08034 Barcelona, Spain 31 m
Description:
The monastery of Pedralbes was founded in 1326 by order of the last wife of the Spanish king Jaume II - Queen Elisende de Moncade. Throughout its history, the monastery complex has never been in a distressed situation, thanks to which all buildings look rich and well-groomed.
Today there is a museum in the monastery building. Most of the exhibitions are designed to show the living conditions of ordinary monks as truthfully as possible. The expositions cover six centuries of the monastery’s existence – here you will see the ancient pharmacy, kitchen, hospital rooms and the main hall of the monastery. In addition to interior items, museum expositions are decorated with authentic works of art. There is also the Thyssen-Bornemisza Gallery, where you can look at 70 paintings from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
