Monastery of San Pere de Caceres
Description:
San Pére de Caceres is located on a peninsula near the Thar River. The monastery was founded by Countess Ermethruit and dedicated to St. Peter.
There are many legends explaining the foundation of San Pere de Caceres. For example, one of them mentions the foundation of a monastery on the grave of a child from Cardon’s house. The child was very weak and should have died soon. When he died, the body was placed on the back of the horse, and where the horse had stopped, the site was chosen for the construction of a new temple in honor of St. Peter. The temple has preserved the mummified remains of a child, which for many centuries are considered holy.
People from different parts of the country come to this place with different requests and seeking healing. Also in the oldest building of the monastery is a 2-storey library.
