Monument to Francesco Masia

Catalonia square, Barcelona, Spain

Description:

The monument to Francesco Masia is a huge granite monument dedicated to the former president of Catalonia, who was shot by the Francoists in the thirties of the 20th century. The monument is installed in the central square of Barcelona and its size immediately attracts attention.

The monument to Francesco Masia was opened in Barcelona in 1991, and its author was the famous Catalan sculptor Jose Maria Subirax.

The monument consists of two giant granite blocks, each of which resembles an inverted ladder march. This memorial makes a very strange and gloomy impression, recalling with all its appearance the sad fate of the person to whom it is dedicated.

In general, the monument to Francesco Masia is the most notable decoration of the square, not lost against the background of several dozen other sculptures and fountains.
