The sculpture "Monument to the Book" was designed by sculptor Joan Brossa commissioned by the Catalan Bukinist Guild. The opening of the monument took place in 1994.
The peculiarity of the monument is in a rather peculiar approach to the choice of materials for sculpture. Unlike the usual monochromatic stone or bronze sculptures, the Barcelona "Monument to the Book" amazes with its multicolor and subtle elaboration of details.
On the polished surface of the gray cubic pedestal, a blue bowl is installed, in which a half-open book in burgundy binding with snow-white pages is placed. The cover of the book is very textured, and the pages seem to tremble in the wind.
