Sculpture by St. George

Description:

In the monastery of Montserat in the niche of the wall you can see the sculpture of St. George, made in a characteristic style by the Catalan sculptor Josep Subirax in 1986. Subirax portrayed the patron of Catalonia in the form of a knight with a shield and sword. Its face and body are made in the form of a recess – have a concave surface, while the hands and the rest of the figure are a more traditional convex relief. Many tourists stop at this place, paying attention to the fact that the knight is looking at you from whatever angle you approach him. In addition, it is difficult not to notice the similarity in the appearance of this figure and the sculptures of Subirax on the facade of the temple of Sagrada Familia.
