Television tower on Montjuic
Carrer Pierre de Coubertin, 10, Barcelona, Spain
Description:
The TV tower on Mount Montjuïc is a huge telecommunications structure built in a futuristic style. The tower was designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava in 1992. Its height is one hundred and thirty-six meters.
The tower symbolizes an athlete with an Olympic torch. Also, in addition to its main function, it plays the role of a giant sundial. Time is determined by the shadow that its spire casts on the round base of the tower. The tower was built specifically for the broadcast of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
