Cardona Castle

Cardona, Barcelona, Spain

Description:

Cardona Castle is one of the main fortresses of Catalonia, which was built in 886 by Wilfred Hair.

The Viscounts of Cardona were married to the ruling dynasty and belonged to the high aristocracy of the Kingdom of Aragon. Inside Cardona Castle in 1040, the church of San Vicente was built, in which the remains of the rulers of Cardona still rest. The fortress gradually expanded until it became the largest in Catalonia.

Since 1949, the castle came under state protection, and in 1976 began large-scale restoration work. The completion of the restoration of the former greatness is scheduled for 2014. Now on the territory of Caradona there is a hotel designed for 106 standard rooms.
