Excursion to Granada with a visit to the Alhambra complex
Description:
Granada, the last capital of the Moorish state in the Iberian Peninsula. In 1492, the Catholic kings, Ferdinand and Isabella, with the capture of Granada, completed the Reconquista, the liberation of the territory from the Moors.
Next to the Cathedral of Granada is the Tomb of the Catholic Kings, where they were buried according to their will. At the end of the main street of the city, Avenida de Colon, is a sculptural composition, the meeting of Isabella and Columbus. It was here, in Granada, that Columbus received royal permission (and funding) for his expedition. The Albaisin district is one of the most interesting places in the city.
Alhambra, a complex of palaces of different eras, which is called the eighth wonder of the world. The so-called Nazarene palaces, built during the rule of the Moors, from the IX to the XV century and the Generalife Palace are the brightest works of Arab architecture in modern Europe.
About two hours drive from Marbella to Granada, and an hour and a half drive from Malaga. Entrance tickets to the Alhambra must be purchased in advance.
