Granada is Christian
Description:
After almost 8 centuries of Moorish rule, Granada returns to the bosom of the Christian church and from that moment, active construction activities begin to unfold in the city to supply the former stronghold of Islam with churches, cathedrals, chapels and monasteries. Efforts reached the point that Granada in the XVI - XVIII centuries became famous as Christianopolis because of the abundance of monasteries and parish churches.
Royal Chapel
During the tour we will visit the only chapel in Granada, built in the Gothic style - the Royal Chapel. This chapel is the final resting place of Isabella and Ferdinand, the Catholic Kings who completed the unification of Spain. This is the perfect place to get to know this extraordinary married couple, which is both a profitable political union and played a very important role in the history of Spain.
Cathedral
The tomb is adjacent to the Cathedral - a majestic structure. It is the first cathedral in Spain built in the Renaissance style. Its grandeur and volume are striking both outside and inside. Here we are waiting for a variety of amazing stories related to the lives of saints and an outstanding cycle of painting by Alonso Cano, dedicated to the Virgin.
Cartesian monastery
The impression of Christian Granada will not be complete unless it comes to the monastic orders that overflow Granada since the XVI century. Among all the monastic monasteries, the Cartesian Monastery stands out. Far from the historical center, the monks sought solitude and union with God. The Cartesian Monastery is the best example of the Baroque era in Granada. Here we learn about the life of the Catresians, the history of the order and the features of the monastic charter.
