Excursion to Granada and the Alhambra
Description:
Granada... A dream of romantics and poets. Built on three hills (Albaisin, Sancromonte and Sabica) on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the city descends smoothly to the fertile valley, mastered by the Moors, and in the distance sparkle snow-covered peaks. Life here flows smoothly and slowly. The fountains of Granada can speak to different voices. In the courtyards, strict and symmetrical, surrounded by fixed trees, it seems that they tell about something mysterious and eternal.
It is impossible to imagine Granada without the Alhambra (al Hambra - translated "red", this name dates back to the ninth century), the pearl of Andalusia. This magnificent Arab palace is located within the city itself. The Alhambra is surrounded by long (2200 m) walls, fortified by fortress towers. The main entrance to the palace is the Gate of Justice. Above the outer arch is a hand whose five fingers symbolize the five principles of Islam. The key above the inner arch is to open the heavenly gate. Neighboring - Wine Gate - connect the residential quarter of the city with Alcazaba. The fortress - the oldest part of the Alhambra - dates back to the XIII century.
