In Andalusian Jerez, architectural monuments of the times of Muslim rule and the Middle Ages have been preserved. Among them is the Alcazar - Arab fortress, built in the XI century. On its territory there is a mosque, which Christians later turned into the Church of St. Mary.
The cathedral was built in the second half of the XVIII century by the project of Diego Moreno Melendez on the place where until 1695 stood the Church of Christ the Savior, converted from a Muslim mosque after the conquest of the city by Christians in 1264.
Jerez de la Frontera is known as the birthplace of sherry - fortified wine made from white grapes according to ancient technology. But the city of Jerez de la Frontera is famous not only for wine. In the XV century in one of the local Cartesian monasteries engaged in breeding and breeding horses.
