The courtyards of Cordoba

By the way, Cordoba is the only city in Spain where this popular holiday is organized, which is also called the “Festival of flowers – colors and smells”.

At its core, it is a celebration of the inner courtyards (in Spanish – patios), which are a feature of the region. In Andalusia, because of the climatic features of the house built around the courtyard or open area, where usually there was a fountain in the center and in many cases a well that collected rainwater. But over time, the courtyards began to make more compact, planted a lot of vegetation in them to increase the feeling of freshness and coolness. Thus, the tradition of decorating courtyards and opening doors to everyone was formed. In 2012 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

We will see the patio, where the balconies and grates are decorated with live flowers, as well as monuments dedicated to the residents of the city, cozy squares, squares, stairs, where citrus trees, palm trees, bushes of bougainvillea are planted, and roses on flowerbeds. Flower Lane is the most photographed and favorite place in the city. We will look into the courtyard of the most luxurious hotel in the city. Visit the house - the palace "Viana", the pride of which are 12 courtyards, some of them modern. Let’s go to the Orange Courtyard of the former mosque, where I will tell you about the main attraction of the city – Mesquita, today the mosque is the Cathedral of Cordoba, a unique and grandiose building in its size. And at the end of our walk, I will take you to a tavern with many flowers and singing canaries, where you can taste the popular dishes of Cordoba.
